Grand Motte Pyramide BS and Occitanie saw off their opponents comfortably to clinch the French league titles
The past weekend (10-12 August) saw the French championships decided in Reims at the Parc Champagne de Reims. Both the men (Grand Motte Pyramide Beach Soccer) and the female (Occitanie) teams went undefeated to take home the trophies.
In the men’s final, Grand Motte Pyramide Beach Soccer put ten goals past their challengers, Beach Team 3 Frontieres, to take the French crown from 2017’s winners, Marseille Beach Team.
Going into the final, this was a team with seemingly unstoppable momentum behind them. The decisive 10-3 victory would mark 18 wins out of 18 league games, and the French champions ended the season undefeated, with Anthony Barbotti scoring a whopping 48 goals, including two in the final!
The other scorers included Léo Grandon (3), Stéphane Belhomme (3) and Nassim El Hadaoui (2) who after the game commented that,
“The competition went as we wanted. We went on a match after match. My goal was to win all the games of the season and go all the way.”
The Moroccan international also took the opportunity to recognise the success of his female counterparts, who claimed the French women’s title…
“This victory is above all that of a club, a family…as our women are also champions of France.”
In the women’s league, Occitanie breezed through their three fixtures to claim the title. First they took on Great East, winning 5-2, next they faced Hauts de France, and they won 2-4 and on the final day the put nine past Mediterranee, and so confirming their crown.
The region of Occitanie reigns supreme over France – congratulations to both teams!
