Malta name Marco Casarsa as national beach soccer coach

Casarsa was presented in a press conference held by the Malta FA on Friday


The Malta Football Association announced Italian Marco Casarsa as the coach of their national beach soccer team in a press conference on Friday.

During his presentation to the media, Mr. Casarsa spoke about his vision and objectives in his new role, highlighting the potential that Malta has in beach soccer, outlining his long-term plans to see beach soccer in Malta grow.

He also pointed out that, with the favourable climate in Malta, beach soccer, can be practised all year round unlike in other European countries.

Casarsa stated that his, “experience in Italy both as a player and as a coach will assist in future endeavours with the Malta national beach soccer team.”

Malta FA Beach Soccer Director Mark Marlow highlighted the importance of enriching the popularity of beach soccer in Malta, “It is our objective to compete at the highest level with the very best in beach soccer, notwithstanding the value of beach soccer in Malta in terms of Sports Tourism.

“Since the arrival of Mr. Casarsa here in Malta, we have already held one training camp, with more to follow in the coming weeks, so as to be well-prepared for the Euro Beach Soccer League Division B scheduled for the end of July in Moldova.” Marlow added.

The start of the Nestle domestic league in the coming weeks will definitely aid the new coach to follow and assess the players at his disposal for the national team.

In his playing career, Mr Casarsa has won the Beach Soccer European Championship in 2005, he is also three-time winner of the Italian Championship (between 2006 and 2010), and has a total of 61 caps the Azzurri.

The Press Conference was also addressed by Pio Vassallo in his role as Malta Beach Soccer President who gave a detailed overview and ongoing preparations for this year’s Nestle Ice Cream Beach Soccer League 2022.

Vassallo commented that, “The appointment of a new national team coach shows the commitment of the Association, and a potential of attaining good results at the international level.”

He also conveyed his pleasure that for yet another season a significant number of teams have enrolled in this year’s domestic competition at Pretty Bay in Birżebbuġa.
