El Rojo prepared their match against River Plate with an intensive training on the beach… and they won the game!
Coming down to the beach is something that professional eleven-a-side teams do more and more often, specially during the preseason, in which the sand offers the best possibilities to train both physical and technical aspects.
But in this occasion, Argentina giants Club Atletico Independiente, one of the most decorated teams in South America, made the most of the beach in their last training session before facing another of the biggest teams in the national league, River Plate, at the Torneo de Verano.
Coach Mauricio Pellegrino designed a series of both physical and real-game exercises on the sand, trying to get his players in the best possible shape to face the Millonarios.
The whole squad, with international stars such as “Cebolla” Rodríguez, Emiliano Papa, Hugo Pellerano or Diego Vera, amongst others, enjoyed a different but fruitful session.
In the end, things went exactly the way El Rojo coach wanted, beach training did his job, and a brilliant second half of the game had Independiente beating River 2-3.
