Brazil clinches Campeonato Sul-Americano!

The Verdeamarela stood perfect in Vitoria, rounding their performance with a stout 8-1 over Paraguay in Buru’s farewell

Brazil claimed the Cup in the first ever Campeonato Sul Americano, a beach soccer competition taking place this last weekend in Vitoria (Brazil). Together with the hosts, Paraguay, Argentina and Uruguay took part in a very successful competition. 

Gilberto Silva had a very successful debut ahead of the Brazilian Beach Soccer Team, in front of the crowded house in Vitoria (Espírito Santo). The Tetracampeão conceded no defeat in the whole tournament, beating their continental rivals with very consistent performances.

After hitting the competition with a stunning 11-1 win over Uruguay in Jorginho’s 300th cap, Brazil secured the final by beating Argentina 6-1. In the decider, the Verdeamarela run past Paraguay (8-1) to claim the Cup. In the game for the third place, Uruguay bent Argentina (5-3). 

Moreover, the Brazilian team also accumulated the individual awards, with Mão named the Best Goalkeeper, Datinha, the Top Scorer and Mauricinho being voted as the Best Player of the competition. 

The weekend was full of emotions, as it included a match between Brazil and Uruguay legends, and the last match of giant Buru with the Brazilian national side, precisely in the same venue where another of the Brazilian’s finest players ever, Junior Negão, put his player career to an end eight years ago. 

 

The “Reis” beat Uruguay

Great players such as Júnior, Edinho, Júnior Negão, Cláudio Adão, Paulo Sérgio, Nenem or Benjamin came together in a Brazil legendary team that brought on a terrific spectacle on the sand. 

 

The “Reis da Areia” took on a selection of former Uruguayan players and delighted the fans with an amusing beach soccer display and a solid win (6-1) over the Charrúa.
