An 8-5 win over New Team Brussels saw the Spaniards reach 6 points and go top of the standings in Nazaré
CFP Cáceres Femenino took advantage of most of their opponents having a rest day today, and overcame New Team Brussels for three more points that make them the leaders of the Women’s Euro Winners Cup Nazaré 2020 at the end of the second matchday.
Paniagua’s ladies managed pressure effectively after seeing how their Belgian counterparts fought back to tie after a 3-0 advantage during the second period, and hit back to restore their advantage and keep New Team Brussels at a safe distance for the remainder of the game.
Maria Barquero, Maria Jesus Escobar and María Martínez, with the first goal of her hat-trick today, built a consistent distance for the Spaniards, who seemed to dominate the game without any danger.
Luisa Meza’s brace, together with Morgane’s missile, equalised things back up for New Team, but Cáceres reacted immediately, not letting their opponents get a foothold in the game. Two more goals, scored by María García and Marina López, made it 5-3 before the break.
The shot exchange in the last leg was not enough for an Annaelle Wiard-inspired New Team to counteract their opponents efforts, and the Belgian side will need to wait for their next chance at points. CFP Cáceres, instead, will close the day as the top of the standings of this Women’s Euro Winners Cup 2020.
