Brazil hits first, Paraguay hits back

Verdeamarela and Guaraní face in double friendly during the weekend, with one victory for each of them

Paraguay and Brazil looked for powerful opponents to get ready for the upcoming challenges (Juegos Bolivarianos de Playa for the first, Samsung Intercontinental Cup Dubai 2012 for the latter), and faced each other this weekend in a double friendly game held at Recanto das Amas (Distrito Federal, Brazil). They both got what they were looking for, indeed, as found it hard to bend their opponent, something they only achieved in one of the two occasions.

Brazil played their role as CONMEBOL champions quite solidly in the first game, held on Saturday. Thanks to Mauricinho’s double and Bruno Malias and Bruno Xavier’s contribution, Guga’s side got in control of the game, and little chance to react was then left for Paraguay. That 4-1 meant the eleventh victory in a row for the Verdeamarela against the striped side.

But in the second game, the Paraguayans paid the Brazilians back with a victory at penalty-kick shootout. Things could have ended much worse for Guga’s lads on Sunday, though, as after the 1-5 run for the ‘Guaraní’ a really tough morning seemed to be looming for the hosts. But an unbelievable performance by the goalkeeper Mão, (with three goals!) got the Canarinha climbing back the wide distance, with the nets by Mauricinho, Bruno Xavier and Anderson managing the final equalizer.

After a goal-less extra time, Paraguay prevailed from the 9 meters distance, ending Brazil’s run of 15 unbeaten games, and letting the Tetracampeão with a bitter taste in their mouths ahead their flight to Dubai for the upcoming Samsung Beach Soccer Intercontinental Cup, to happen as of October 30th at Dubai’s Festival City.
