After a second day full of surprises in this Euro Beach Soccer League stage, only the decider tomorrow will decide the winners
Surprising Romania upset Ukraine
Romania brought on one big surprise in this Euro Beach Soccer League Terracina, as they edged Ukraine in the second matchday of the competition. The Romanian offered a terrific defensive display, and took great advantage of the few opportunities they enjoyed to end up upsetting one of the favourites to win this stage.
Ukraine was never comfortable in the pitch, due to the great job performed by Viorel?s side, and that feeling got even worse with Ravi?s opener. The missile by Romania?s number two got the Ukrainians down in the score. What they could not suspect at that moment was that it was to be for good.
The panorama for Kucherenko?s side got darker with Lucio?s 2-0 for Romania, with just three minutes to go. Having been unable to reach Marin?s nets all game long, it was difficult to imagine them hitting the target three times with such a tight remaining lapse. Zboorovskyi wanted to give it a try, though, and his stunning overhead kick managed to pull one back for Ukraine. That would be the only one the Ukrainians would capture, though, and the final whistle confirmed the three points were flying to Romanian hands.
Goals: 1-0: Ravi, min. 5 (2); 2-0: Lucio, min. 3 (3); 2-1: Zborovskyi, min. 2 (3);
Portugal stays on winning mood
Portugal seized their second victory in two games in this Euro Beach Soccer League Terracina 2013. Despite the impossibility of fielding Madjer due to an injury, the Lusitanian side has performed in a really consistent fashion today, giving little chance to Germany.
It cannot be said that the Germans have had a smooth landing onto the Division A competition, having had to face two monsters such as World Champions Russia and Portugal in their first two matches. Boringschulte?s team has fought these two terrible contenders with spirit and determination, but has been left with no points so far. Although they made Portugal?s life nothing easy in the beginning of the game, even equalizing Alan?s opener, the higher quality and experience of Narciso?s squad ended up making the difference.
A 3-0 run in the last period definitely sealed the win for Portugal, and forces Germany to wait until their next opportunity, against Belarus (tomorrow, 15:30) to try a new attempt to the points.
Goals: 1-0: Alan, min. 9 (1); 1-1: Keppinho, min. 0 (1); 2-1: José M., min. 3 (2); 3-1: Belchior, min. 8 (3); 4-1: Alan, min. 1 (3); 5-1: Jose María, min. 0 (3);
Russia keeps winning, too
World Champions and EBSL current runner-ups Russia bagged three new points to remain at the top of the table in group 2 in this Euro Beachg Soccer League Terracina, following a victory over Belarus in the second matchday of the competition.
Despite the Belarusians turned to be a tough opponent, even getting ahead in the score, Russia is a truly reliable team, and fought their way back to a commanding position. It took a while for Likhachev?s lads to get ahead after Peremitin?s equalizer, though. Belarus managed to block the roads to the back of their nets for more than a period, with Makarevich denying the Russian attempts once and again.
But the third period became the final assault to the points for Russia. Krash swept the World Champions ahead, with Leonov to follow from the distance to widen the gap to 3-2. Belarus had not had their last say, though, and Svalutsin tried to keep his team in the combat, but, with four minutes yet to go, Peremitin hit again to secure the win for his side.
Goals: 0-1: Shkarin (og), min. 10 (1); 1-1: Peremitin, min. 5 (1); 2-1: Krash, min. 9 (3); 3-1: Leonov, min. 8 (3); 3-2: Svalutsin, min. 8 (3); 4-2: Peremitin, min. 4 (3);
Netherlands brings rain on Italian parade
Italian reaction fell one goal short in the last game of this second matchday at the Euro Beach Soccer League Terracina 2013. The Dutch National upset the hosts to earn their first points in the season, in their return to Division A after many years. The victory by Kokmeijer?s side gets the whole Group 1 leveled, with the four teams having won one match and lost another one.
The hits by Klijbroek and Van Gessel swept the Netherlands in command. Despite being faced to a more experienced side and to a terrific atmosphere, the Dutch stood still, and even counteracted Corosiniti?s 2-1 with a new hit by Van Gessel for the 3-1.
Terracina man Frainetti was not to let his team give up, and pushed to keep on with the fight. Two goals by the Azzurri dynamo got Italy back on the fight, with the 4-3 and still four minutes to go. The thousands of people packing the stands started believing the comeback was close, but that was precisely the opposite of what Ax was thinking? The Orange forward brilliantly netted the 5-3 with a stunning overhead kick that flew past Carpita.
The hosts kept battling despite how difficult things had got, and Soria managed to pull one back in the last minute of the game, but there was not enough time left for Azzurri reaction to get any further. The final whistle had the points flying to the recently promoted Orange side, what gets group 1 absolutely locked up with all the teams having collected three units. All possibilities open for tomorrow?
Goals: 1-0: Klijbroek, min. 7 (1); 2-0: V. Gessel, min. 11 (2); 2-1: Corosiniti, min. 7 (2); 3-1: V. Gessel, min. 10 (3); 4-1: Ax, min. 9 (3); 4-2: Frainetti, min. 7 (3); 4-3: Frainetti, min. 3 (3); 5-3: Ax, min. 2 (3); 5-4: Soria, min. 0 (3);
DIVISION B
Great comeback by Hungary against Israel tightens Division B
Hungary came from 0-2 behind and ended up upsetting Israel to tighten Division B pool in this Euro Beach Soccer League stage taking place in Terracina. The Magyar showed their breed when things got most difficult and did never faint to finally seal three points that give them the chance to qualify for the Promotion Final.
After Badash?s double, Israel seemed to be cruising to a Promotion Final berth, but things changed in the last stage. Sebestyen, in the period opening, and Ughy, five minutes later equalized the score. But the Magyar did not stop there, as Weisz fired a free kick in to turn the score around and get Hungary in command with four minutes to go.
The Israeli were unable to counteract that stroke, thus missing the first chance to secure a place in the fight for Division A ticket next August. Only a loud victory over Turkey tomorrow will work now for Lam?s side. Hungary will need to win again, too, if they want to be in the struggle for one of the two highest places in the table.
Goals: 0-1: Badash, min. 7 (1); 0-2: Badash, min. 5 (2); 1-2: Sebestyen, min. 10 (3); 2-2: Ughy, min. 5 (3); 3-2: Weisz, min. 4 (3)
Turkey bends Azerbaijan to keep ahead in Division B
Turkey ran past Azerbaijan today to stay on top of the table in Division B, with an unparalleled 6-point record. Paradoxically, though, it was precisely Israel?s defeat in the first game of the day what denied the Turkish the chance to mathematically earn a ticket to the Promotion final, as Hungary has also jumped onto the fight for a place in Torredembarra.
It took a while for Turkey to break the Azeri resistance. But once they did, the game went absolutely under their control. Onur and Bariç got the score 0-2 before the first hooter, with Adil and seyit widening the gap to 0-4 midway second period. Jomard pulled one back for Azerbaijan, only to see, though, the immediate response by Onur and Bariç, again, who rounded two doubles to definitely seal the Turkish win. Azerbaijan could hit only once again, through Orkan, but the final whistle confirmed their second defeat in Terracina.
Goals: 0-1: Onur, min. 2 (1); 0-2: Bariç, min. 1 (1); 0-3: Adil, min. 11 (2); 0-4: Seyit, min. 7 (2); 1-4: Jomard, min. 4 (2); 1-5: Bariç, min. 4 (3); 1-6: Onur, min. 3 (3); 2-6: Orkan, min. 3 (3);
