Both they and runners-up Buarcos 2017 earned promotion to the Elite League
Varzim SC won the National Beach Soccer Championship of Portugal when they defeated AD Buarcos 2017 by five goals to four in the final on Sunday.
The league is the second division of beach soccer, with the Elite League still to be completed. However, their heroics in the 2020 season sees both finalists, AD Buarcos 2017 and Varzim, claimed a place amongst the heavy weights of Portuguese beach soccer in the 2021 season.
The final took place on Sunday at Estádio do Viveiro – Jordan Santos in Nazaré, and in an exciting game, the two teams were tied with four goals apiece until very late in the match, but Trivelas proved the difference between the side and scored a fifth goal Varzim, his second of the match.
Edu, Vitó and Rúben Feiteira also scored for the Alvinegros.
Pedro Dias, FPF Director, Madjer, Beach Soccer Coordinator, and Walter Chicharro, Mayor of Nazaré, participated in the award ceremony that crowned the champion.
Sérgio Ramos, Varzim coach, commented after the final: “It has been five months of hard work. Our thinking has always been on the division and we have always believed in ourselves. We have a fantastic team and a direction that supports us unconditionally. Our effort has been rewarded with this national title. It is a more than deserved gift for this working group.”
AD Buarcos and Varzim SC will face each other again next season, but this time in the Elite League.
