They beat Beach Royals Düsseldorf in the final of the German Beach Soccer League on Sunday
Ibbenbürener BSC have reclaimed the German Beach Soccer Championship after winning the final against their Düsseldorf rivals on Sunday.
It is the club’s second national league title, the last one coming in 2016, and the German international players certainly played their part in downing Beach Royals Düsseldorf, who were also their finalist opponents in 2016.
The heroes of an incredible underdog story at the Euro Winners Cup just a few weeks ago, whereby Beach Royals Düsseldorf defeated Spaniards AD Torrejon with just five available players and no goalkeeper, suffered a fourth defeat in a final of the 2020 German league, the other occasions being in 2013, 2016 and 2019.
The German national team captain Christian Biermann laid the foundations for victory with two converted free-kicks in the opening period. Veteran Oliver Romrig brought the Beach Royals to just a goal behind, until Julin Muthulingam restored the distance soon after.
Another Die Mannschaft player Joscha Metzler poked home a fourth for Ibbenbürener against his ex-club, and there was just time for Romrig to snatch one back in the final minute to see the final score confirmed at 4-2.
Real Münster take third place
Real Münster won their third-place playoff against the 2019 winners Rostocker Robben. Just a few weeks previously they had also won the match for third in the Euro Winners Cup, becoming the first ever German beach soccer club to do so.
It was only in extra time that Münster managed to push a 3-1 advantage after regular time finished with the score at 1-1.
Christoph Thürk brought the four-time title holders into the lead in the eighth minute, but at the beginning of the final third, Münster striker Pablo Perez managed equalised to force extra time where strikes from Ali Bagheri and Evgenii Kets snatched victory for Gabriel Mohagheghi’s men.
