The Charrúa return to the global showpiece after 10 years, as reigning champions will head to Paraguay to defend their crown
Brazil and Uruguay will accompany Paraguay as the representatives of CONMEBOL in the coming FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup Paraguay 2019, following the Eliminatorias CONMEBOL semi-finals held today at the Parque Olímpico de Rio de Janeiro (Brazil).
A tight 4-3 had the Charrúa upset Paraguay and secure a place in the continental final and, most importantly, a ticket to the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup, which they have been absent from the last ten years, since their last global experience in Dubai 2009.
The game was fiercely contested as Paraguay, despite having their place in the World Cup already secured, still wanted to go all the way in the Eliminatorias CONMEBOL and seize the South American crown for the first time.
Paraguay turned the score around to command a 3-2 lead by the beginning of the third period, but Uruguay reacted in the last stage of the game to come from behind and seize the win, the place in the final and the ticket to the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup.
In the second semi-final of this Eliminatorias CONMEBOL al Mundial de Fútbol Playa – Rio 2019, hosts Brazil gave Argentina no chance, and secured yet another qualification to the World Cup, a competition they have never missed.
The Albiceleste challenged the defending World Champions during the first half of the game, but Gilberto’s men geared up after Argentina’s 2-1, and changed things drastically, with a 8-1 run that left the Argentineans powerless.
