Two teams added to the lineup, draw time finalised, and competition format confirmed for the Catania based tournament set for June 3rd-8th
There is less than a week before the Euro Winners Cup 2014 officially commences with the draw, with 25 teams in the pots. It is to take place on Tuesday, May 13th at 3:30pm. Once the draw takes place there will only be two weeks before the scoring begins on Italian sand.
25 championship caliber teams will be participating as Egmond Beach Soccer from Holland has been added to the list of champions. This will not be the first time that the Dutch team has competed as they were a formidable force in the last Euro Winners Cup, held last season in San Benedetto del Tronto. In turn, England recently determined their national league champion and they will be sending Portsmouth Beach Soccer. It will be the first appearance for Portsmouth and they are ready to make some noise and a deep run in the tournament.
The positioning will be set at the time of the draw but the format will be as follows: A group stage with four groups of 4 and three groups of 3, then we will see the two best ranked sides of each group, and the best overall two third-ranked sides advance to the round of 16. After that, the quarterfinals, semifinals, and the final will reveal who claims the throne of the European champions.
Beachsoccer.com will have all of the coverage and will update all information as soon as the draw is complete.
