The hosts went 2-1 against Hungary and Azerbaijan in their three international exhibition matches from January 13th-20th in Dubai
Tuesday the 13th marked the beginning of the training camp in Dubai and the first match was the UAE vs Hungary, won by the hosts, 6-1. Then, on Monday the 19th, the final day of the international friendlies had the Emirati losing to Azerbaijan 3-2. The other match saw the UAE defeat Hungary 6-3. The training camp ended today as there was a final friendly between Azerbaijan and the top club team in the UAE, Al-Ahli FC.
The first match of the training camp was Hungary vs the UAE and the Europeans were unable to muster enough offense as the final score was 6-1. Things were close in the opening frame as both sides scored one goal, leaving score at 1-1 going into the middle frame. The home side could not fully pull away though as they only scored twice. However, the defense did their job and pitched a shut-out. The final frame is where the Asian side took control, scoring another three goals to put the final score at 6-1, after another dominating defensive period.
Azerbaijan has been playing many beach soccer matches lately and though they came into the match against the Emirati as underdogs, they felt they could win. The positive attitude worked as the Azerbaijani upset the UAE 3-2. Both squads came out firing on all cylinders, scoring goals and playing sound defense, however the hosts found themselves down 2-1 going into the middle period. The Azerbaijan defense did just enough to hold off the comeback as both teams scored in the last period, leaving the visitors up 3-2.
