After back-to-back wins in Mundialito Almada and EBSL Baku, Portugal are June’s Movers of the Month!
It has been a very strong month for a Mario Narciso’s men, and the Portuguese look like they are going to take some stopping in the Euro Beach Soccer League in Nazaré next month.
Early in June, Portugal fought off Japan, Mexico and finally Spain to claim the top spot in the Almada Mundialito. They followed up this show of beach soccer supremacy by travelling to Azerbaijan for this year’s first instalment of the Euro Beach Soccer League, topping their group and taking nine out of a possible nine points.
As a result of these impressive feats, Portugal gained a huge 41 points, remaining in second place in the world ranking, but closing the gap on Brazil.
Elsewhere in the ranking, Iran moved into third place as Russia dropped points, as did Egypt who were leapfrogged by Oman who climbed to 16th.
France moved up two places into 23rd position following their campaign in the Euro Beach Soccer League in Baku, and Morocco rose by two places as Hungary and Lebanon’s points fell too. England, Austria, Romania and Serbia dropped by two places and Costa Rica by four, slipping into 52nd position.
