La Roja bend the hosts to claim the cup in Mexico’s international debut
Spain claimed the throne at the Visit Puerto Vallarta Cup Women’s Competition, following a stout win over hosts Mexico this Sunday. The Spaniards used their wider international experience and gave Mexico, who were living their first international experience here, no chance.
Acknowledging how hard to win the Azteca can become, Spain wanted to secure a comfortable advantage as soon as possible. And so they did, lead by an inspired Alba Mellado who, with three goals today, became the tournament’s top goal scorer.
Mexico tried to react, but the Azteca would not fly higher than the 1-4 rescued by their captain Paloma Zermeño midway half second leg.
In a crowded stadium, what is already a triumph for women’s beach soccer in itself, Spain got back to business. A 4-0 run in the third period would definitely seal their win, confirming La Roja as the champions of this Visit Puerto Vallarta Cup which will always be remembered as the international debut of the Mexican Women’s National Team.
