One goal in the last minute of a terribly hard fought game has the Azteca prevailing over USA
Mexico had the gold of the Visit Puerto Vallarta Cup 2017 stay on home soil, thanks to a narrow win over the other CONCACAF giants, USA in the decider of the competition.
Angel Rodriguez was in hand today, with four goals, to help the Azteca counteract every goal the Stars and Stripes achieved, and finally was the man firing the penalty kick shot home for the final 5-4.
The game was a fiercely contested battle all throughout, with both sides exchanging blows since the opening period.
Mexico would not manage to get ahead until midway half third period, only to see, though, Nick Perera equalize for the 4-4.
But when extra time seemed the only way out, Angel Rodríguez made the most of a penalty kick attempt to seal the win for the hosts, becoming, at the same time, the tournament’s most valuable player.
France resist the Colombian reaction to earn third in Puerto Vallarta
France clinched the third place at the Visit Puerto Vallarta Cup 2017 following a tight win over Colombia. Despite Les Bleus seemed to be building a consistent advantage, the Cafeteros reacted in the last stages of the game to cut the distance and get just one goal behind.
Anthony Barbotti was the French key player today. His stunning performance, with four goals today, helped his team stay afloat when things got risky due to the Colombian spirit.
The 3-0 run was not enough to scare Colombia, and no matter how hard it seemed to be, the Cafeteros tried and tried in their last chance in this Puerto Vallarta Cup. That lead to a stroke exchange in the second leg, with France prevailing and getting to the last period two goals ahead.
Colombia cut that distance in half in the last period, but their reaction fell one goal short, and Les Bleus sealed the third place in the competition.
