Both sides will square off today, with the winner sealing silverware while Bahamas and USA will vie for bronze
A thrilling day at the BFA Beach Soccer Stadium in Nassau left two sides, Spain and Mexico, on top of the table, ready to fight today for the Cup.
The Spaniards overcame a mighty Bahamas National side that managed to challenge their beach soccer entity in a true entertainer.
Despite Spain’s opening 0-2, the hosts never lose face to the game, managing to cut distance once and again since Lesley St Fleur responded to Llorenç’s and Edu’s hits at the beginning of the second period.
That middle leg saw Bahamas replying to Spain’s attempts to widen the distance, with Forbes scoring the 2-3 after Antonio’s fourth for La Roja.
Joaquin Alonso’s lads would finally manage to build a bigger distance in the third period. Edu, Antonio and Riduan helped Spain take off with a 3-0 run that left Spain 2-7 up. The hosts reaction, with Gavin Christie and St Fleur pulling two back, came too late, and Spain secured three new points that give them the chance to fight for the Cup this Sunday.
Mexico prevail in CONCACAF clasico
In the first game of the day, Mexico and USA gave the fans an absolutely exciting beach soccer spectacle, with a balanced fight between these old rivals in which the Azteca finally prevailed.
Goals galored since the very first period, when Perera opened the score for the Stars and Stripes, only to see Mexico counteract with Mosco and Torres to turn score around. Jason Leopoldo equalized the score before the first period was over.
The strike exchange went on in the second leg, in which Nick Perera would be the first to score, again with the same result: Two goals immediately scored by Mexico’s captain Angel Rodríguez to change the course of the game.
The Azteca woul widen the gap, with Ulises Torres’ second hit of the day to make it 5-3, and again this time, USA managed to react to neutralize Mexico’s advantage.
Mexico finally managed to seal the win in the third period. Vizcarra pushed Mexico ahead once again, but along came Perera, with his fourth goal, to tie things back. This time, though, Mexico would manage to gear up in the last minutes of the game to snatch a truly hard-fought win that gets them the chance to fight for the Bahamas Beach Soccer Cup against Spain.
