Each and every match played is very important to the World standings and early in 2014 there are already changes
Beach Soccer continues to grow and so does the competition and battle for the Overall World Rankings. The first three months of 2014 have passed and the rankings have changed. Taking into account the previous four years worth of matches and win-loss record, the rankings have understandably shuffled as teams vie for higher positioning.
Russia has maintained their hold on the number one spot after successfully defending their FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup Ravenna 2011 title in Tahiti this past year. The biggest leap in the top 20 was from the Solomon Islands as they moved up three spots to number 16, while the biggest drop in the top 20 was by Japan, falling four spots to 15. The European Confederation has stayed consistent in the top 10 with 5 nations making the cut, though all six Confederations have at least one team in the top 11.
The Overall World Rankings are dynamic rankings, as they always include the last 48 months. In this case some significant cut in points has happened, basically due to the fact that the first update does not take into consideration the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup Dubai 2009, while the previous rankings did. The period assessed in this new update comprises the months between April 2010 and March 2014, with a gradual decrease in the points weighting. Each year, the value decreases 25% (as it was).
As of now, only two FIFA Beach Soccer World Cups will be taken into consideration for the standings, which will be updated monthly. So, take note of your country, your favourite country, your friends´ country, or a rival country and stayed tuned for more updates throughout the season…
