Nazaré to host the Euro Beach Soccer League Superfinal and Women’s Euro Beach Soccer Cup 2020

Always following National Health Bureaux (DGS) directives, the Portuguese resort reconfirms its place as the European beach soccer epicentre with 4 events including Euro Winners Cup!

The Euro Beach Soccer League Superfinal will finally take place in Nazaré this year, after Beach Soccer World Wide and the Nazaré municipality agreed to host the competition on the dates it was scheduled to happen (1 – 6 September), always following the instructions from the Portuguese Direção-Geral de Saúde. After Figueira da Foz’s decided to postpone their hosting rights to 2021, BSWW and Nazaré reached a quick agreement so that the conclusion of the European League travelled to the Estadio do Viveiro, which will see four top-class events this summer!

That same week, Nazaré will also welcome the Women’s Euro Beach Soccer Cup 2020, with Europe’s best national teams fighting for the continental crown, which currently belongs to Russia. The following week (between 8-13 of September), the Euro Winners Cup will take the baton, with the best clubs on the Old Continent taking to the sand in the Estadio do Viveiro, the undisputed theatre of beach soccer in 2020.

In this same line, Beach Soccer World Wide will provide the teams with the mandatory protocol and documentation by the Direção-Geral de Said (General Health Bureaux) from the Portuguese Government, who are ultimately responsible for approving sports competitions on the beaches of the country.

An improvement in conditions in Nazaré after months of the Covid-19 crisis has meant that their ability to host an international sports competition, and the possibility of having the core of the European season there, was always a possibility.

The Presidente da Camara Municipal de Nazaré, Walter Chicharro explained that the management of the Covid-19 impact made it possible to host the Euro Beach Soccer League Superfinal as well as the Euro Winners Cup. “We are lucky to have managed this crisis with good results overall, and we also consider that hosting such important international events will help our local businesses to improve their situation after such a tough summer. This, and because we see ourselves as the home of beach soccer in Portugal, is why we decided to go ahead with the scheduled competitions, as well as take on the hosting of this year’s Euro Beach Soccer League Superfinal and Women’s Euro Beach Soccer Cup.” he said.

In turn, the Beach Soccer World Wide President Joan Cuscó highlighted the satisfaction felt within the beach soccer world at the news. “We are really thankful to Nazaré, with our friend Presidente Walter Chicharro at the head, who have shown a great disposition to host the Euro Beach Soccer League Superfinal and the Women’s Euro Beach Soccer Cup in addition to the Euro Winners Cup. We are lucky to have such committed people like our friends in Nazaré in our family. Now we are waiting for final DGS regulations to star setting up the tournament, because everybody loves this place and the Estadio do Viveiro as well. Players, BSWW staff, fans, referees… Everybody always wants to come back to Nazaré.” Mr. Cuscó specified.

The final competition format, list of participating teams and match schedule for both the Euro Beach Soccer League Superfinal and the Women’s Euro Beach Soccer Cup 2020 will be released in the coming days.
