The Italian coach will lead the Caribbean side in the coming Concacaf Beach Soccer Championship
Matteo Marrucci has been officially appointed as associate head coach of the Turks & Caicos national beach soccer team. Following his three years as the Germany National side, the Viareggino begins a new adventure in the heart of the Caribbean.
Marrucci will travel to the Island of Providenciales, where the TCIFA headquarters are based, in the last week of April to start a three-week preparation camp with the team ahead of the Concacaf Beach Soccer Championship 2021, which kicks off in Costa Rica on 17 May.
“I am really happy with this opportunity, and very thankful to the Turks & Caicos Islands Football Association for their confidence. I am sure I will have a great experience and I will make the most of it, especially because it means a great opportunity to compete again after the lockdown.”, he said.
Although qualifying for the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup Russia 2021 posed a huge challenge, Marrucci doesn’t want to rule anything out. “Our objective is to improve the squad, and to give good performances in Costa Rica.
“The team have been playing together for a long time now since they made their debut on the international stage six years ago, and I am sure they will be in good shape, as they keep competing on an international scale. Now, our job is to have an intensive training schedule and make the most of our quality to perform at the maximum level in Costa Rica“.
Despite having spent his coaching career in Europe, where he coached Pisa Beach Soccer Club and Netherlands before joining Die Mannschaft in 2017, Marrucci has good knowledge of the Concacaf beach soccer scene, as he had a experience as Angelo Schirinzi’s assistant coach for the Bahamas before the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup in 2017.
