Leixões SC win 4-3 against GD Sesimbra to win the Euro Winners Challenge 2024
As the final kicked off, straight from kick off, the ball was flicked up to Trivelas who struck the ball past the goalkeeper which saw Leixões go 1-0 up. With seven minutes left of the first period, Rúben doubled the lead for Leixões. The first period ended with a scoreline of 2-0 in favour of Leixões.
The second period and Sesimbra hit back with a goal of their own through Gonçalo Loureiro. The one goal lead didn’t last long as it was soon doubled for Leixões as Pedrinho cut inside on his left foot and whipped the ball round the keeper and into the net to make it 3-1. The second period ended with the score 3-1 to Leixões.
The final period of the final and Sesimbra reduced the deficit to one. Diogo Bernardo flicked up the ball and volleyed it from distance to the left of the keeper. It was all to play for with seven minutes remaining. Sesimbra found an equaliser and it came through B with four minutes left, the game was now wide open. Leixões retook the lead through an absolute worldie by Pedrinho. The game ended with Leixões as winners by 4-3 and this saw them the champions of the Euro Winners Challenge and take home the trophy.
Individual awards
Following the final, three individual awards were awarded to the top performers. All three awards were given to Leixões players with Pedrinho being the MVP of the competition, as Rúben Regufe was the Best Goalkeeper and Matheus was the Top Goalscorer.
