Four contenders left in the fight for Copa Libertadores

Cerro Porteño-Fundación Monagas and Vasco da Gama-CS Acassuso, the semi-finals

The semi-finals of the CONMEBOL Copa Libertadores Fútbol Playa 2019, taking place in Asunción (Paraguay), were defined yesterday, following a thrilling quarter-finals stage. Cerro Porteño (PAR), Fundación Monagas (VEN), Vasco da Gama (BRA) and CA Acassuso (ARG) will square off today to see who makes the final on Saturday.

Paraguay champions Cerro Porteño progressed to the semifinals of the CONMEBOL Copa Libertadores Fútbol Playa, following a consistent 8-4 win over countrymen San Bernardino. Despite San Bernardino scored first, and even got 2-0 ahead 5 minutes into the game, Cerro Porteño reacted, led by a magnificent Carlos Carballo, to secure the win. Four goals and one assist by the Paraguayan International got the Ciclón Obrero within the best four.

Two-time champions Vasco da Gama will keep fighting to get their Copa Libertadores crown, following their 7-3 win over Bolivian champions Hamacas FC, and will take on Argentinean rulers CA Acassuso in the fight for a place in the final of the competition.

The Argentinean side, in turn, bent their Chilean counterparts Deportivo Iquique in a thrilling see-saw battle. The stroke exchange between both sides ended 5-4 for the Quemeros.

In the other quarter-finals fixture of the day, only the penalty kick shootout could decide who was getting their spot amongst the best four. Venezuela champs Fundación Monagas finally made it through, after staying perfect from the nine meter distance, and will now take on hosts Cerro Porteño for a place in the final.
