Indastrials and ELMONT claim final two knockout stage places and will meet Delta and Spartak in the next round
Group B was the only group to still have spots in the quarter-finals of the Russian Cup available on the last day of group stage games.
Indastrials beat group leaders ELMONT when the sides met on Wednesday, but a stroke of luck for each team saw Lukoil pick up their first victory to deny AO Mekhta hitting six points, therefore delivering both Indastrials and ELMONT into the next round.
Perfect runs for Lokomotiv, Kristall and Spartak Moscow meant that the Russian powerhouses entered the next round as group winners, as each beat group rivals Kronshtadt-Promenad, Krylia Sovetov and Delta Saratov, all of whom qualify for the quarter-finals.
Goals from Nikonorov (2), Kanstantsinaiu and Mamadiev were enough for Lokomotiv to down Kronshtadt-Promenad in Group A, while in Group B Krylia Sovetov were beaten 1-5 by defending champions, BSC Kristall.
Former best player in the world, Mauricinho, found the net for Angelo Schirinzi’s men, as well as Datinha, Bryshtel and Paporotnyi. The win was wrapped up by an unfortunate Lucao own goal late in the tie.
Stars from the Russian national team shone the brightest when Spartak saw off Delta by six goals to three, with Zemskov (3), Shkarin and Makarov getting on the scoresheet, along with the Belarussian international, Aleh Hapon.
The Moscovites with face ELMONT in the next round, while their city rivals Lokomotiv are set to play Krylia Sovetov. Indastrials will take on Delta, while the holders of the Russian Cup, BSC Kristall, will be challenged for a place in the semi-finals by Kronshtadt-Promenad.
