The XIXth edition of the Mundialito Futebol de Praia was made today, in an official opening press conference that unveiled a remarkable surprise: Espinho will also be the venue for the upcoming FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup Portugal 2015, to take place in July 2015.
The president of the Portuguese Football Association (FPF), Fernando Gomes, revealed that this Portuguese northern resort will be hosting the VIIth FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup, after the successful last edition held in Tahiti. Together with him, the President of the Espinho City Council, Joaquim José Pinto Moreira, Joan Cusco, Beach Soccer Worldwide Executive Vice-president and FIFA Beach Soccer Committee Member, and Jaime Yarza, FIFA Senior Manager Competitions, sat the presentation .
So, this upcoming XIX Mundialito Futebol de Praia will have a double value, both in the line of growth of the Beach Soccer event with a longest history (began in 1994), at the time it will become an excellent appetizer for what is coming to Espinho next summer…
Fernando Gomes, president of the Federação Portugesa de Futebol remembered “the strong commitment Portugal and the FPF has always had with Beach Soccer. We have always wanted to host top class events, with the best players, and the best teams, and the opportunity to host a FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup means a lot to us“.
Similarly, the president of the Cambra de Espinho, Joaquim Pinto Moreira, assured that “we are ready. We know it is a huge responsibility, but at the same time we know it is a great opportunity for us. We will not miss it, and with the help of FIFA, Beach Soccer Worldwide and the Federaçao Portuguesa de Futebol, we will build a great World Cup. We already feel truly grateful to have been given the opportunity to host both the Mundialito and the World Cup, and we will not disappoint.“
Joan Cusco, representing both FIFA, as Beach Soccer Committee member, and Beach Soccer Worldwide, remembered how important is Portugal in the Beach Soccer history, at the time he recapped the success story this Mundialito de Futebol Praia pictures, with nineteen editions, out of which eighteen have happened in Portugal.
At the same time, Cusco highlighted that “the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup coming to Portugal was a matter of justice. The priceless effort, professionalism, excellent job in the development of the sport and availability of the cities and the FPF made their candidacy the most suitable one for the next edition of the event. I want to thank the Portuguese FA and Espinho because we have found a huge backing from their side since the very beginning“.
