CD Murcia are newly crowned Spanish League champions

Spain’s newest top club navigated an unpredictable road to finals victory at La Manga del Mar Menor, Murcia from the 18th-20th of July

The top eight Spanish teams met in Cartagena in the final stage of the National League season and CD Murcia defeated Bala Azul 7-2 in the final match earning the title of 2014 Champion of the Spanish Beach Soccer National League. There were fewer goals in both semifinal matches leading up to the final, though the excitement never wavered. Bala Azul defeated Levante in penalties after drawing 4-4 in regular and extra time. Murcia faced a difficult challenge from rival Almería, however, the eventual champions were up to the task and wound up winning 3-1.

The defending champions from Cádiz, Aluminios Sotelo, were unable to replicate the magic they had last year in winning the title over Almería 4-2. The 2013 league victory gave Aluminios the chance to play in the prestigious Euro Winners Cup this year, and now the honour will be bestowed upon Murcia for the Euro Winners Cup 2015.

Diego D. Martinez, President of the Spanish National Beach Soccer Committee, and Jose Miguel Monje, President of the Federation of Murcia, put the finishing touches on the roller-coaster weekend by handing over the championship trophy to CD Murcia.

Antonio Mayor Hernandez of Almería won the MVP award for his outstanding play over the course of the stage, a nice consolation prize for coming up short in the quest for the title. The next individual award, the top goal scorer went to Miguel Garrido from Levante.
