The competition will take place between 13 February and 23 May and will feature both men and women’s divisions
The ad honorem president of the Instituto Nacional de los Deportes de El Salvador (INDES), Yamil Bukele, officially presented the first edition of the El Salvador National League this past weekend, in a meeting held with representatives of the teams and members of the Salvadoran National Team, including National Coach Rudis Gallo.
The National League was supposed to take place this 2020, but the COVID-19 pandemic made it impossible to stage, so it was postponed to the beginning of 2021.
The competition will be played in different venues across the country, and will feature both men’s and women’s divisions. Twelve teams will take part in the men’s division, distributed in two groups of six, with the best two ranked sides qualifying for the semi-finals of the championship.
In the women’s competition, eight teams will be drawn into two groups of four. Each venue will have two legs, and the best two ranked teams from each group will progress to the semi-finals.
“We want to position El Salvador as one of the examples of beach soccer in the Central American and Caribbean region in order to attract great competitions, becoming a regular venue in the Beach Soccer Worldwide calendar”, president Bukele said.
“The national players are our priority, and we want to provide them with the best possible stage to have a great projection, both nationally and internationally”, he added.
The Apertura will kick-off on 13 February, with the finals being held on 23 May. Final calendar and match scheduled will be released on 20 January
