Brazil is January’s mover of the month!

The new Overall World Ranking Presented by Power Horse has been updated for January 2016

2016 has begun and it became evident early that Brazil’s New Years’ resolution was to make moves in the Overall World Ranking Presented by Power Horse. The Brazilians did just that and they sit at 2,400 points, are ranked 5th overall, and are the highest ranked South American side. Though they did not overtake any of the countries ahead of them in the Ranking, they gained significant ground. The godfathers of beach soccer earned most of their points by winning the Campeonato Sul-Americana, and that, like any win, gives the champion a large number of points.

The Ranking is based on the number of wins, participating events, hosting events, and titles that a team has earned over the course of the last three years and 11 months. The more recent beach soccer action weighs heavier and it means that the more a country has hosted or played in an event in the past year, regardless of win and loss records, will earn more points than the nation who did the same but in 2012 and not 2015.

Since the last update in December 2015, there have been significant changes in points but the Top-10 teams did not shift minus a swap  between Iran and Switzerland. Switzerland went from seventh to sixth, at Iran’s expense. The other eight teams start with Russia at number 1, then Portugal, Brazil, Italy, Tahiti, and 8-10 are Mexico, Spain, and Argentina, respectively. The season is charging forward and the teams and points will shift again shortly so make sure you are connected to www.beachsoccer.com, where all the updates will be made public.
