The 24th of January 1995, the first ever Beach Soccer World Championships kicked-off in Copacabana (Brazil)
This same day, 24th of January, 21 years ago, Beach Soccer inaugurated its first ever World Cup at the sports birthplace, Copacabana, in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil).
At that moment, the tournament was known as Beach Soccer World Championships, the predecessor of what today is the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup. It was in 2005, after the inclussion of beach soccer in the FIFA family, that the evolution took place.
Beach Soccer had already demonstrated its potential at that very early stage, and the growth of the sport in those first steps demanded a worldwide top-class competition.
That firs ever Beach Soccer World Championships brought on 16 games, with the fathers of the sport and hosts, Brazil clinching the cup in an amazingly packed stadium.
It was just the first chapter of what has proven to be a true success story; a story which is still getting better and better every year.
