Morocco, Nigeria, Côte d?Ivoire, Egypt, Madagascar, Senegal, South Africa, Congo, Algeria and Libya to fight to go to Ravenna
The time for Africa has come to decide which of its countries will be graced with a place in the upcoming FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup Ravenna Italy 2011. This time, the battle will be harder than ever, since up to ten teams, the highest number so far, will turn up for the African Qualifier, happening in Casablanca (Morocco) this June 15th to 19th. Together with hosts Morocco, Nigeria, Côte d’Ivoire, Egypt, Libya, Senegal, South Africa, Congo DR, Algeria, and Madagascar will be at the sand of the Ain Diab Plage trying their best for one of the two access-cards to the Global Beach Soccer appointment in early September.
As expected, the biggest guns in the continent will not miss the chance of placing their name amongst the best 16 National squads. All-time favorites Nigeria, the champions of last edition, will be accompanied by previous winners such as Senegal or another of the usual fighters in Africa: Côte d’Ivoire. The Maghreb forces, with hosts Morocco ahead will surely offer a huge resistance, and Egypt, as they proved winning the last BSWW Tour played in Oman, will also be a side to take into consideration for the honours.
The competition format will split the ten teams in two groups of five. All the teams in the groups will play in a round-robin format facing the other four within the same chart, enjoying a rest day, as well. The teams at the top of each table will be automatically graced with a berth in the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup. Straight that way: The best of each chart goes to Ravenna. Groups will be finally distributed at the Official Draft, taking place next Monday, June 13th.
