The first ever edition of the Pakistan Beach Soccer League takes place in Kulazai, Killa Abdullah
The maiden edition of the Pakistani Beach Soccer League was clinched by Zhob in a dramatic final showdown which went all the way to penalties.
An opening ceremony on the 14th of October cut the ribbon on the historical event, which took place in the town of Kulazai, Killa Abdullah, in northern Pakistan.
In a draw on the 10th of October, the eight participating teams had been split into two groups.
Group A consisted of: Karachi, Ziarat, Peshawar and Chaman.
While in Group B, there were: Quetta, Lahore, Islamabad and Zhob.
After finishing in the top half of their group tables, the semi-finals saw Ziarat take on Zhob, whilst Chaman would battle against Islamabad.
Ziarat against Zhob ended when Zhob won 3-4 on penalties, and they would play against the team from the capital, and their Group B rivals, Islamabad, who also went to penalties to seal a spot in the final, in their match against local Killa Abdullah side, Chaman.
The final was held on the 25th of October between Zhad and Islamabad. Considering that this was the opening edition, the teams were clearly on a level playing field, as yet another match had to be painstakingly settled from the penalty spot, following a thrilling 4-4 normal time contest.
It was Zhob who lifted the first beach soccer league trophy in Pakistan, after dealing a 3-2 defeat on penalties to their rivals.
The event represents not only a victory for the players and staff of Zhob, but for every team that took part in a pioneering event, as well as for beach soccer as a whole, which has gained a bright new league on the global stage.
Congratulations to everyone involved, and thank you for playing your part in the growth of our great sport!
