Viareggio, Artur Music in the Euro Winners Cup final!

Ukrainians upsets hosts as Viareggio bend SC Braga in the semi-finals to earn a historical chance

Viareggio earn ticket to the final from the penalty kick spot.

Viareggio Beach Soccer became the first finalist of the Euro Winners Cup after a stunning fight against SC Braga, only defined from the penalty kick spot. The game between the Transalpine and the Portuguese was one of those battles that gets even spectators exhausted, with lots of drama and uncertainty. SC Braga saved two match balls during the game, but could not save the last one, and after the last penalty by Amarelle hit the post, Valenti sealed the go-through when sending his attempt in.

The game never had a clear domineer, as both teams were bringing on timely attacks, talented actions and sound defence. Evenness seemed there to stay, as minutes went by and the game remained tied, getting to the extra time.

In the second minute of the additional frame, Andrade committed an absolutely unusual mistake, when not controlling an easy back pass by his teammate Bruno Torres that ended in the back of his own net. Minutes went by and Viareggio seemed to have it done, but a free kick by Be Martins sent the game to the penalty shootout with just seconds to go.

From the 9-meter distance, Viareggio proved better aimed, sealing a historical place in the final of the Euro Winners Cup for the first time, where they are to take on Artur Music.

Artur Music upset hosts for a place in the great finale

With a goal on extra time, Noel Ott had Artur Music ruining the hosts expectations in the semi-finals clash today at the Domusbet Arena of Catania. The rossoblu dreamed with back-to-back finals which granted them the chance to clinch the title they were denied last season. But Artur Music had other plans today, and with a hard-fought win gets to their first ever Euro Winners Cup finale.

Rodrigo helped his team have things on the right track, but Ott equalized the score before the first period was over. Korniichuk swept Artur Music ahead, and this time it was Catania the ones balancing things back. Two more goals in the last frame, by target men Stankovic and Rodrigo sent the game onto extra time. There, the Ukrainians took advantage of their only clear goal chance to seal a win hat will have them fighting Viareggio for the cup in this European top clubs competition.

Lokomotiv bend Krylya Sovetov and target 5th

Two teams from the same country clashed again today in the first match of the play-off for fifth place. 2013 champions Lokomotiv Moscow and Russian defending titleholders, Krylya Sovetov were most probably targeting higher places when they came to Catania, but after their defeats yesterday, the fifth place seemed the only possible way out of Sicily.

The Muscovite side wanted to take the lead in the game, and eventually managed, when Leonov and Fernando DDI widened the distance to 3-1 at the beginning of first period. Krylya pulled one back, but Lokomotiv definitely took off in the last frame, with a 3-0 run that had them commanding the game comfortably. With just five minutes remaining, and despite Bokinha’s 6-3, Loko cruised to the victory and will now take on BSC Chargers Baselland for the fifth place in this Euro Winners Cup 2016.

Goals: 1-0: Fernando, min. 10 (1); 1-1: Zotov, min. 9 (1); 2-1: Leonov, min. 4 (1); 3-1: Fernando, min. 8 (2); 3-2: Katarino, min. 2 (2); 4-2: Shaikov, min. 10 (3); 5-2: Makarov, min. 9 (3); 6-2: Shaikov, min. 6 (3); 6-3: Bokinha, min. 5 (3).

Dmais hat-trick help chargers through

BSC Chargers Baselland will take on Lokomotiv Moscow in the fight for the fifth place in the Euro Winners Cup 2016, following a narrow win over Serie A defending kings ASD Terracina. Brazilian talent was on hand for the Alpine side today, as three goals by Dmais, together with Rafinha’s opener had most of the job done for their team.

ASD Terracina, despite being behind in the score for most of the game, never lost face on it. Not even when the distance was as wide as three goals. The Puntini fought and fought, and responded to the Swiss dominion, but their reaction finally came one goal short.
