The organism highly values the Foundation?s contribution to the development of disadvantaged areas in Nigeria through sport
The Copa Lagos, to take place this weekend in Nigeria, has indeed already achieved a great prize without the ball getting even in motion…The United Nations have shown their support and congratulated the Copa Lagos for its great value and contribution to the fostering of the development of disadvantaged areas in Nigeria through sport. The different social activities planned in the context of the event, such as the football clinics for youth, and the Clean the Beach and Skin Cancer Awareness projects set up by The Beach Soccer Foundations are regarded by the United Nations as wonderful ideas that contribute sustainably to worldwide growth and welfare, precisely the leading guidelines of the Sport for Development and Peace programme.
As the Special Adviser to the United Nations Secretary General on Sport for Development and Peace, Wilfried Lemke, states in the letter addressed to the event’s organization, the initiatives led by Copa Lagos 2011 and The Beach Soccer Foundation “will transmit important ideals of the sport to the participants. The values taught will contribute to shaping some elementary life skills to the participating young individuals which can be essential for them in the future”.
