The Portuguese forward followed online from the Athletes Village in Baku how his first son was born in Portugal, with all his teammates surrounding him
Taking part in the first ever European Olympic Games, representing your country, is an experience no one can forget for life. This experience got even way more intense for Portuguese international José Maria Fonseca, who has become a father during the Portuguese stay in Azerbaijan, just two days before the beginning of the competition.
In Baku, 5000 kilometres far from his wife and family in Portugal, José Maria could only attend his son’s birth online. Facetime let him witness how his son Alfonso was born healthy and happy.
The whole Portuguese team accompanied him in this very special and emotional moment, one which will for sure stay in their minds for ever, and which clearly showcased the union within the Lusitanian squad.
Although he might be looking really forward to go back home and take his recently born child into his arms, José Maria Fonseca will for sure have extra motivation when he hits the sand this Wednesday. Every step he makes, Alfonso will be with him.
Congratulations to him and his family! And welcome to the beach soccer family, Alfonso!
