Playing in their third straight Super Cup final Terracina made sure of a three-peat after edging Viareggio
On the beautiful beach in Ostia Lido (Rome), Viareggio played extremely hard in a final match that could have gone either way. It was a game that had to end with one team winning and one team losing, and it ended in the favour of Terracina 8-6. The two squads were very evenly matched and provided an entertaining game by everyone?s standards. It was the third consecutive Super Cup victory for Terracina and it put them in a tie with rival Catania for most Super Cups at three.
Everything you could want in a championship match was in the first period alone. The equal strength of the sides was evident throughout and the first goal was not scored until there were only three minutes left in the first. That is when the defense took a back seat to the offense. Viareggio scored first, but in the same minute Swiss National team star, Borer, scored for Terracina to even things. Less than a minute later, both sides exchanged quick goals and that is how the period ended, tied at 2.
The offenses were clicking early in the second as four goals were scored in four minutes. Borer of Terracina once again started things off, putting his side up 3-2, but Viareggio rattled off two straight to take the lead again at 4-3. Terracina equalized the score almost immediately after that. But Ramacciotti, of Viareggio, scored his second goal of the game late in the period to give his team the lead 5-4 heading into the all important final period.
The last period, just like the second, saw five goals scored but unlike the other periods, Terracina scored the majority of them, 4. Viareggio scored a quick goal to open the last period and give his team its biggest lead, 2 goals. Terracina was a team destined to win though as they scored 4 straight, the final one coming in the last minute, to seal the Super Cup victory.
In last season?s Super Cup final, Terracina defeated Catania to prevent them from a 4th title in seven years. Catania captured their three titles in four years. Next season Terracina will aim for their unprecedented fourth consecutive title in the 11th season of Italys´ top Beach Soccer league. If this final was any indicator, Viareggio will be back next year and they have every intention and the ability to change to outcome to their benefit.
