Switzerland put Japan to the test before Tahiti

The Alpine fly to Japanese soil for a double-leg friendly during the weekend, with one victory for each side

Switzerland made for a very tough contender for Japan during last weekend, when the Asian runner-ups hosted two friendly games against the Swiss. In search of the best preparation to the World Cup kicking off next week, the Nippon took on the Alpine twice, with one victory for each side.

With two new players in the National Squad, Remo Wittlin and Nicola Werder, both from the Chargers from Basel, Switzerland overpowered Japan in the first of the two friendly games, held at the Odaiban Beach in Tokyo. Five goals by Philip Borer, who is quickly scaffolding his way to the Beach Soccer elite, got most of the job done for the Swiss.

The Japanese revenge came on day later, though. In a packed stadium for the second day, Ruy Ramos side reacted to the defeat suffered the day before and bent Switzerland rather loudly (7-2). A 5-0 run for the Asian left things fairly unbalanced, and the European reaction, led by Borer once again, fell way too short.
