The Lisbon side edge CD Nacional and GD Estoril Praia to secure the first national Portuguese Women’s cup
Sporting Clube de Portugal prevailed in the first edition of the Sete Saias Cup, held this past weekend in Nazaré, following two convincing wins over GD Estoril Praia and CD Nacional.
The matches on Saturday had CD Nacional and Sporting Clube securing the chance to play for the Cup on Sunday, with two solid performances against GD Estoril Praia.
In the decider of the competition, held this Sunday, the Leoas bagged the all-important win over CD Nacional. Ines swept Sporting ahead midway through the first period, and the advantage remained until the sixth minute in the second, when Soraia made the most of a counterattack to level things up again.
The Lisbon-based team reacted immediately after that, and sealed the win with a 3-0 run in the beginning of the third period. CD Nacional would pull one back with a shot from distance, but the time left was just not enough for much more than that, and Sporting Clube de Portugal were crowned champions of the first ever Sete Saias Cup.
