Round 2 of the national league is set to begin on Thursday in Kebbi State
“Beach soccer has always been a part of us because we grew up playing football bare-footed on sand.” This was the statement of Mahmud Hadeijia, chairman of Africa Beach Soccer Union and Kebbi Beach Soccer Association, as he welcomed the participating teams to the second round of NBSL.
The eight teams taking part are:
Group A: Kebbi BSC, Badagry United, Kwara BSC and Anambra BSC
Group B: Igbogbo BSC, Edo BSC, Kada BSC and Smart City
The event was kicked off with a seminar and press conference. Legendary Brazilian beach soccer coach Mr Marcelo Mendes gave a virtual presentation highlighting the huge untapped potential beach soccer talent in Africa.
FIFA Beach Soccer Referee Jelili Ogunmuyiwa also gave a virtual presentation, as Mr Deo Mutabazi, Vice President of the African Beach Soccer Union and Chairman Uganda Beach Soccer Association, also delivered the support of the African Beach Soccer stakeholders.
Mr Isa Abdul, an ex-Sand Eagles and current assistant national team coach, took charge of the technical presentations, with references to match clips and the laws of the game.
The second round of league games in Nigeria is set to begin in Kebbi on Thursday 13 May.
