The Uruguayan giants officially inaugurated their Beach Soccer section, with Diego Monserrat as their technical director
One of the most historic South American teams, Uruguayan CA Peñarol de Montevideo, has made a determined move towards beach soccer, and officially presented the club?s beach soccer before Christmas. The Aurinegro side have always showed a great interest in the sport, and that has finally ended with the foundation of their Beach Soccer branch.
The team will be technically steered by Uruguay National goalkeeper Diego Monserrat, and will bank on some of the regular Celeste players, such as Matías Cabrera or Ricardo Martínez.
The ?carboneros? will be put to the test in a couple of weeks, taking part in the eighth edition of the Copa Uruguay a Toda Costa, to be held as of January 14th at the Arenas del Plata stadium, in Montevideo. In this competition, the black-and-yellow side is to face city archrivals Nacional, together with other 10 clubs.
Club Atlético Peñarol, named ?Best South American Club of the XXth Century? by the IFHHS (International Federation of Football History and Statistics) is one of the most popular clubs in Uruguay, boasting five Libertadores Cups, three Intercontinental Cups and 48 National Championships, among many other awards.
