The EBSL touches down in Nazaré

The first of two regular stage Euro Beach Soccer League events is about to kick off in Portugal

The European league is back, and it gets underway on the Portuguese coast just weeks after Nazaré hosted the Euro Winners Cup.

Last year’s finalists Spain have arrived, and are looking to go one step further than second place this year, but also vying for a European crown are hosts Portugal, who come into this competition on the back of clinching gold at the European Games in Minsk, and therefore will be full of confidence.

The eight Division A teams battling in Nazaré have been spilt into two groups. Group 1 sees Portugal drawn against Ukraine, Poland and Switzerland, while in Group 2, Azerbaijan, Spain, Turkey and Russia fight to pick up as many points as possible to reach the Superfinal, which will take place between 5 – 8 September.

In Division B, one group of four teams (Denmark, Georgia, Bulgaria and Norway) come to Nazaré with the hope of earning enough points to reach the Promotion Final, which will take place at the same time as the Superfinal, in Figueira da Foz, Portugal.

As there are only two regular stages this year (due to the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup being held in 2019) this will be the only opportunity for these teams to prove themselves worthy of a place in the Superfinal and Promotion Final; who do you think will make the cut?
