The first teams have staked very strong claims to their Euro Winners Cup places with a second victory in the Euro Winners Challenge.

The main event begins on Sunday, alongside the final and all-important deciders of the Euro Winners Challenge, to see who will fill the as-of-yet empty Groups J and K.

Before we look to the future, let’s review today’s beach soccer action…

Marseille Beach Team 3 – 4 Sporting CP “B” (Group F)

Marseille had tasted victory yesterday, but Sporting B were in dire need of points if they were to keep Euro Winners Cup hopes alive.

Mendy snatched an early lead for the French side, but Sporting, having failed to score in their first match against Kefallinia, netted twice to go into the final period on level terms.

They then held their nerve to convert two more chances and see the game out with a 3-4 victory, leveling Group F, with three teams sitting on three points at the final whistle.

Littoral BS Dunkerquois 4 – 5 Grupo Desportivo De Alfarim (Group E)

Both Littoral Dunkerquois and Alfarim had won their games yesterday and the Group E topspot was up for grabs with victory today.

The French side looked as if they would continue their winning streak, but in very similar fashion to yesterday’s comeback against their Portuguese rivals Amigos da Paz, Alfarim reacted well to falling behind.

Gosselin continued his form by netting a hat-trick, but before long Andre did the same for Alfarim. However, it was Barral’s goal that proved the decider, completing the comeback and sending Alfarim to the top of the group – not bad for their first time in Nazaré!

GR Olival Basto v New Team BS Brussels (Group D)

Having both lost their opening matches, Olival Basto and New Team Brussels needed a win today to stay in the running for the Euro Winners Cup.

After a goalless first period, following some wasteful attacking play, the teams were clearly going to be difficult to separate. The deadlock was eventually broken by the Belgians, but in the third period an equalizer forced extra time and then penalties.

It was the Belgian side who slipped up in sudden death penalties, gifting Olival Basto the victory. However, having dropped two points, they will struggle to make it to the main event.

AO Kefallinia 6 – 4 Casa Benfica Caldas Rainha (Group F)

Casa Benfica received a second and devastating blow to their hopes of Euro Winners Cup qualification, as Kefallinia pull away from their groupmates.

The first two periods went in exactly the same fashion, as four goals were split evenly in the first, and then four more in the second.

At 4-4 going into the final period, the match looked likely to head to extra time but on the home straight the Greeks found a boost to net two more and claim six points, topping Group F, and just one win away from reaching Euro Winners Cup.

GR Amigos Da Paz 5 – 4 Varzim SC (Group E)

This meeting represented another struggle for essential points as neither side had claimed victory on day one.

The Amigos went into the first break with a 3-1 lead thanks to a Ricardo Costa brace, but in the second, Varzim became more clinical with their chances and managed to pull the game back to 3-3.

Each side scored once more, but it was Ricardo Costa’s third goal that made all the difference, pushing Varzim to the bottom of Group E and seriously damaging their hopes for the Euro Winners Cup.

BSC Lokomotiv 11 – 2 São Domingos FC (Group D)

Facing São Domingos FC on day two, Lokomotiv picked up where they left of yesterday against New Team BS Brussels…

After the opening 12 minutes, they had accumulated a 5-0 lead, but in the second period, Sao Domingos showed that they had teeth, and David P scored against the run of play and the Railway Men were unable to find the net themselves.

However, in the final period, they were back, with Nikonorov scoring four, adding to his hat-trick from the previous day. The match ended at 11-1, as Lokomotiv look set to join the three Russian sides already in the Euro Winners Cup.

LSA Perwez 6 – 4 Real Münster EV (Group C)

Victory came at a cost for LSA Perwez yesterday, as local Nazaré side, Biblioteca, took them to penalties meaning that the Belgian side dropped two of a possible three points.

However, they lead for most of their match against Real Munster, taking an early lead and taking their final tally to six, thanks to braces from Belme and Sbaa.

The Germans were never far behind though, scoring four goals of their own, but they were unable to catch Perwez who now have four points, while Munster are yet to get off the mark.

Napoli Patron BSC 4 – 3 Atletico Licata BS (Group B) *AET

The none-Portuguese representation of Group B met today in a tight battle which saw extra time required to separate the two.

The first period ended 1-1, then another goal each in the second, and bizarrely another two goals went in at both ends in the final period, keeping the score tied at 3-3.

In the added three minutes, a late strike by Napoli sealed two precious points for the Greek side, while the Italians slip into fourth.

AD Buarcos 2017 3 – 6 GD Sesimbra (Group B)

Someone’s winning streak would come to an end today as day one’s Group B victors faced-off for the top spot.

The new-comers to the competition had had a blistering start to their campaign, and continued it with a two-goal lead going into the second period, in which they scored two more.

Sesimbra then netted number five and six, with Pinhal and Mantorras each bagging braces to see off AD Buarcos by 3-6.

Portsmouth BSC 6 – 7 GDP Costa De Caparica (Group A)

Pompey took an early lead against Costa de Caparica through two Steven Black strike and they went in at the first whistle leading.

But in a total change of direction, the Portuguese side netted five in just 9 minutes! Jose Miguel bagged a hat-trick in just six minutes, and as the final period began Portsmouth trailed by three goals to five.

The Portuguese pushed the difference to 3-7 and when all looked lost the tables turned again. But the three quick-fire goals weren’t enough to rescue the match and Costa de Caparica claimed a 6-7 win.

CF Chelas 3 – 4 Salgueiros 08 (Group A)

The first period between the two Portuguese sides was slow, as neither wanted to let the other in and risk falling behind.

But at the start of the second period, Trivelas, who had netted an impressive five goals the previous day, opened his day two account immediately, and Salgueiros had a 1-2 lead going into the last 12 minutes.

He then scored his eighth in two matches, helping his side defeat Chelas by a single goal. Salgueiros 08 remain undefeated and are a within touching distance of Euro Winners Cup qualification.

CSKA 5 – 3 Biblioteca Instruçao E Recreio (Group C)

The last match on pitch one saw the Nazaré representation at the European showdown, Biblioteca Instruçao E Recreio, take on CSKA Moscow.

The locals had lost the day before, but when CSKA took the lead they struck back straight away. At the end of the second period the Russians had the lead again, and they did well to shut down Biblioteca attacks.

They extended their lead to 5-3 before the final whistle to take the six points out of six and sit comfortably at the top of Group C, just a win away from the Euro Winners Cup.
