The Brazilian ace closed his playing career in a friendly game against Japan in which football star Ronaldinho also took part
One of the most important players of the history of the Brazilian beach soccer called it a day yesterday in Rio de Janeiro. After 24 years playing on the sand at the highest level, Jorginho said goodbye to the fans in a friendly game against Japan, held yesterday at Rio’s Parque Olímpico.
That game ended with a 11-4 victory for Brazil, but that was not the most important thing of a day full of emotions, surprises and appreciation, including the first ever participation of football star Ronaldinho Gaucho with the Brazilian beach soccer national team.
The former FC Barcelona and AC Milan star did not want to miss his friend’s Jorginho’s last game, just as beach soccer legends Júnior and Claudio Adão, who handed Jorginho a plaque before the beginning of the game.
“Thank you, thank you all. This is the only thing I can say in a moment like this. Having Ronaldinho by my side in such a day like this is the proof that everything, these 24 years of devotion to the sport, were worth the effort. The moment has arrived for me to take a break, and to keep supporting beach soccer to help it grow more and more. From the bottom of my heart, thank you all”, said Jorginho.
