Day 1 of the workshop broached subjects of laws of the game, discipline, future events, and maturity of the sport
All of the leaders in beach soccer and important ambassadors were present for the first sessions of discussions and presentations. The Samsung Beach Soccer Intercontinental Cup began on the 4th of November and is in full-swing, but the Workshop began successfully began with the figureheads sharing their knowledge and vision of and for the game. Joan Cusco, BSWW Executive Vice President and FIFA Beach Soccer Committee Member, welcomed the esteemed guests with a brief overview and an important welcoming, “The game today is better than a year ago, but we need to make the game even better.”
FIFA management was present and shared even more encouraging words, “Together we are making this sport the fastest growing sport in the world.” Jaime Yarza, FIFA Senior Manager Beach Soccer and Futsal Competitions. Those words could not be more true as evidenced by the coming together of all the prominent figures and the open discussions, which showed a level of maturity within the sport, that showcases its rapid development and powerful influence on the global scale, across all the football modalities.
An exciting movement within the sport this season was when the laws of the game were altered and the results have come in. Josep Ponset, BSWW Head of Competitions, explained, “The changes were made to allow people to adapt and grow with the sport. Being stagnant is a fear in any sport, but beach soccer is proving to be anything but rigid. These rules show our progress.” Beach soccer had begun to see trends emerge, thanks in part to research from Portuguese legend Madjer, and the Rules Committee along with Beach Soccer Worldwide helped to change the trends, beginning in the 2014 beach soccer season and Mr. Ponset also outlined the analysis after the implementation of the new rules.
One of the best moments of any symposium like this, is looking forward and Gabino Renales, BSWW Deputy Vice President, aptly outlined the tentative plans for the next season. He went on to say, “The beach soccer competitions menu is growing and we are all very proud. It is difficult to plan the year with all the events but it is necessary, not only for us, but media, promoters, fans, teams, and such.” The events include new ones, established ones, qualifiers, club events, and of course the jewel of the season, the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup Portugal 2015. More news will be divulged tomorrow in the second day of the workshop. Beachsoccer.com will have all the updates.
