Ghobeiri, new Lebanese champions

Ghobeiri edge Regi after a terribly balanced final in Beirut, with the penalty shootout passing sentence

Ghobeiri Club was crowned champion of 2013 edition of the Lebanon beach Soccer League, after beating Regi Club in the penalty kick shootout.

The Champions wanted to get quickly into business in the final, and Mohammed Choker swept the ahead just seconds into the game. Regi replied soon, too, withMohamad Merhi and National hero Haitham Fattal turning the score around. That was not enough to turn down Ghobeiri’s spirit, and Hussein Abdallah pulled the equalizer back to close the first period.

The same two protagonits were in hand in the second period, to sting once more for their side. Fattal got Regi ahead again, only to see Abdallah’s response for the 3-3. Merhi’s 3-4 seemed to get Regi’s hands on the cup, but Yehya Suleiman balanced the game for a last time to send it to the extra time.

After the extra time final hooter of such a terribly balanced final, the result was levelled 4-4 at the Ramlet El Bayda Beach in Beirut, so the title was to be sorted from the 9 meter distance.  The better aim by the white outfitted side got Ghobeiri the honour, which they received from the hands of Mr. Mazen Kobeissi and Mr. Georges Chahine, from the Executive Committee members of the Lebanese Football Association.
