Brazil, Chile, Paraguay and Colombia open the competition in Santos with thrilling wins
Not even the heavy rain that has been pouring over Santos during the last days could spoil a magnificent first day in the Copa America Fútbol Playa kicking off today in Santos (Brazil)
Four teams snatched their first points in this opening matchday, with Chile’s stout win over CONMEBOL former champions Argentina becoming one of the big surprises of the day.
The defending continental kings, instead, gave mighty Bolivians no chance at all, and despite a low start ended up hammering the Bolivian nets up to nine times, for a final score of 1-9 that places Gilberto’s lads at the top of the table in group A, followed by La Roja.
In group B, Paraguay bended a combative Venezuela, leading a convincing win that confirms that the Guaraní are, and will be, one of the main favourites for the silverware here in Santos.
Now with Guga behind the steering wheel, the Paraguayans look fiercer than ever, just two months ahead of the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup Qualifier they will host in Asunción (February 2017).
In the first game of the competition, Colombia turned the score around to upset Ecuador and clinch the first points at stake. Ojeda’s winner in the third period, after Ecuador had managed to step ahead in the score twice, has the “Cafeteros” following Paraguay at the top of the table in Group B.
Carlinhos, representing Chapecoense
Before the match of Brazil, Chapecoense was homage again, as their mascot, little Indian Carlinhos, walked to the pitch with the Brazilian team, and was the one to kick off the game. Força Chape!
