An uncontestable 8-3 over German Cup champions Beach Royals Dusseldorf confirm the Saxons as first champions of the event
BST Chemnitz, with three German internationals Sascha Weirauch, Sascha Penke and Manuel Mönch onboard, edged recently crowned German Beach Soccer Cup Champions Beach Royals Dusseldorf to earn the first edition of the DFB Cup. In the finals held last weekend at the Nivea Haus, in Rostock, the Saxons took revenge over the ones from North Rhine-Westphalia after the defeat two weeks ago, to bag the honour.
An early 2-0 got Chemnitz on the lead, and despite the Beach Royals managed a 2-2 equalizer, the Saxons would get ahead again, to cruise past their opponents in a terribly prolific third leg. Germany’s captain Olli tried to lead Dusseldorf’s response, but Chemnitz were feeling strong, and did not let their opponents any chance, at the time they made the distance wider and wider.
In the game for the third place, FC Versandkostenfrei beat another of the favourites to the final win, BeachKick Berlin.
A great weekend in Rostock proved the excellent health Beach Soccer has in Germany, where the game is growing and developing in a very satisfying manner. Klaus Jahn, representative of the DFB (German FA) in the tournament, highlighted that “despite Beach Soccer is relatively new in the DFB, it entails a huge potential, and the teams have offered a great spectacle”.
