Two one-goal-difference victories have given Brazil and Uruguay the leading places after the first matchday of the current XII Copa Latina. Whereas the charrúa bended neighbours Argentina (4-3) in one of the traditional clashes in the American sportive panorama in the opening game, hosts Brazil have beat recently crowned CONCACAF kings México ending the game one goal up (4-3).
The first step of the Verdeamarela in their way to the tenth crown in this Copa Latina was not easy. It was not planned to be, though, since Soare’s team had to face Mexico, recent winners of the CONCACAF Qualifier. The match turned to be exactly what the Brazilians feared, with a combative Azteca side that got even ahead after Benjamin’s opener with the hits by Cati and Rodriguez. It was rookie Dunga, making his debut with the yellow outfit, the one who equalize the score in the second period, and setting things ready for recordman Benjamin to give the game a Brazilian flavor with a brilliant hat-trick. Plata’s free-kick missile came too late for the Mexican expectations, since the remaining 8 seconds to the final horn were far not enough to attempt the equalizer.
In turn, Uruguay needed a significant comeback to snatch their first three points against Argentina. The Albiceleste had hit twice during the first period, with Vivas and De Ezeyza making it 2-0 for Petrasso’s lads. Matías and Fabian managed the first equalizer for Uruguay just when the Argentinean seemed to be settling strong with their difference, but De Ezeyza swept the albiceleste in front again. Matias had to come to the rescue again for the Uruguayan, and little afterwards, Bella completed the two-steps comeback to give their team the first three points.
