Nico Alvarado, Gilberto and Angelo Schirinzi are 2019’s nominatees for the award
The contenders for the Best Coach of the Year award have been whittled down to just three…
This year’s nominees are: Nico Alvarado (Belarus), Gilberto (Brazil) and Angelo Schirinzi (Switzerland and BSC Kristall).
The prize will be awarded on the final day of the annual Intercontinental Cup (5-9 November) in Dubai, at the Beach Soccer Stars gala on Saturday 9 November.
Nico Alvarado is the only one in the three-person list who has not been selected for the award previously.
His nomination comes on the back of the Spaniard leading the Belarus national side to an historic maiden qualification to the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup, to be held in Paraguay from 21 November – 1 December.
Two more familiar faces in the line-up are Brazil’s Gilberto and Swiss coach Angelo Schirinzi, who appear on the shortlist for a third and fourth year. Brazil have won everything in the path over the last 12 months, not including last year’s Intercontinental Cup which was won by Iran.
Gilberto has won the award on both previous occasions of being nominated, and currently holds the title of Best Coach.
Under Schirinzi’s experienced eye, Switzerland have qualified for another World Cup and won a bronze medal at the European Games in Minsk.
He also led Russian club side BSC Kristall to winning both the 2019 national league and cup, and is included in the list for a fourth time but has never won the award.
