The Games will feature the sport for the very first time in The Bahamas this week.
Beach soccer will feature as part of the Commonwealth Youth Games for the very first time this week, with both the men’s and women’s competitions kicking off on Wednesday.
The wider Games get underway today, with the beach soccer competition running from July 19th to 22nd, as players aged between 16 and 18 represent their countries in both the men’s and women’s competitions at the National Beach Soccer Arena, Malcolm Park.
The arena famously hosted the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup in April and May as Team Bahamas thrilled the home fans on the sand alongside the best teams in the world.
Now The Bahamas’ youth teams will get the chance to do likewise when they compete in both the men’s and women’s events.
The young men will go up against Trinidad and Tobago, St Lucia and Antigua and Barbuda while their female compatriots face Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica and The Turks and Caicos Islands.
The third-place play-offs and the finals will then take place on Saturday with two teams being crowned champions as part of what will be the largest edition of the Games ever held, with up to 1,300 athletes taking part in a host of events and disciplines.
