The Malcolm Park facility was formally opened ahead of the CONCACAF Beach Soccer Championship.
Ahead of the opening day of the CONCACAF Beach Soccer Championship in Nassau, delegates and VIPs gathered at Malcolm Park to officially open the National Beach Soccer Facility in the Bahamian capital.
Both this week’s CONCACAF Beach Soccer Championship and the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup in April and May will be staged at the brand new stadium, and it is hoped these competitions, along with the facility, will help grow the sport in the country.
Deputy Prime Minister of the Bahamas Philip Davis was present alongside Daniel Johnson, Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture, Bahamas Football Association President Anton Sealey and LOC President Jeffrey Beckles as well as tournament directors Josep Ponset and Sergio Garcia.
A large number of young volunteers for the event were also present at the opening, with the Deputy PM explaining: “It is a privilege for us to have been given the honour to host such a top-class competition as the CONCACAF Beach Soccer Championships now and the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup in a couple of months.
“These will project the name of our country. I thank FIFA and CONCACAF for their trust. The Bahamas will shine bright!”
Daniel Johnson continued: “Bahamas is getting a primary position with this event, getting the attention of the whole sports world,” while Anton Sealey added: “I want to thank the Government of the Bahamas, the Prime Minister, the Deputy PM and Minister Johnson for their huge support.
“We are happy to be hosting such a significant competition here in the Bahamas this week, leading to the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup in late April, that stands as one of the most major sporting events ever to be hosted in the Bahamas.”
