Grasshopper, champions of the Women’s Euro Winners Cup!

The Swiss side edge Beachkick Berlin in the final in Catania to claim first ever continental crown

Grasshopper Club Zurich claimed the first ever Women’s Euro Winners Cup, following a balanced final against Beachkick Berlin Ladies. The Swiss side showed a great beach soccer entity, not letting nervousness get in their way when things got difficult.

Beachkick Berlin, who stepped ahead in the score and sat on the driver’s seat for most of the game, saw their opponents take over in the third period, and found no ways to contend the Alpine’s momentum.

The awarded as best player of the competition, Rebecca Gabriel, swept the German team ahead midway first period, with Neue following for the 2-0 before the frame was over. In those very difficult moments, Grasshopper stayed calm and awaited for their moment, which would eventually come.

It did, and in the second period, the Alpine side equalised the score, at the time they grew strong on the sand. Gabriel hit again to have his side ahead again, but a 0-3 run by Grasshoppers definitely unbalanced the game. Heer pulled one back for the Berliners, but the 17 seconds remaining were not enough to allow them accomplish the comeback, and Grasshopper Club Zurich sealed a historical win: They are the first ever champions of the Womens Euro Winners Cup!
