Charruas and Albicelestes to fight for the top of group B looking for best fixture in semifinals of the CONMEBOL Qualifier
Venezuela 03 vs. 02 Chile
An amazing performance by Venezuelan goalie, Gianluca, became the key for the Vinotinto to cause a new big surprise in the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup 2011 – CONMEBOL Qualifier, held these days in Rio de Janeiro. Although getting in the last period 2-1 down in the score, Venezuela offered a great tactical showdown and placed their goalie as the team’s playmaker. The source of Chilean troubles became even harsher when Gianluca himself scored the winner for his side, with just 35 seconds to go. This win by Venezuela leaves things really leveled in Group A, where only Brazil seem unstoppable for the moment.
Perú 05 vs. 09 Paraguay
In the other match of the group, Paraguay grasped their first three points in the tournament, after bending Peru at the Arena Copacabana, in a goal-packed fixture. With the Paraguayans ending up 5-9 above, Peru is left with no chances to get to Ravenna, as with just one match left, they would never make six points to get into semifinals. After being thrashed by Brazil, and not being able to endure Chile’s last-period pace, Paraguay used a determined beginning of the match to get in control of the game. Getting 3-0 ahead, they built an advantage they would never see turn around, and replied with goals any attempt by the Peruvians to change the course of things.
Argentina 02 vs. 00 Colombia
Argentina kept a privileged position in group B, as with a new victory they get really close to the semifinals of this FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup 2011 – CONMEBOL Qualifier. The Albiceleste tightly edged Colombia (2-0) with two goals by Vivas and Larreta. With these new three points, the Argentineans top the table in their group, and a victory over Uruguay in their next matchday would almost secure them not having to face Brazil in semifinals. On their side, Colombia proved again that, despite their lack of experience in the Continantal stage, they are a really competitive team, and herald new upsets in upcoming editions.
Uruguay 08 vs. 02 Ecuador
Uruguay needed to get even with the bad taste of their defeat in their debut in the competition, in which they lost to Colombia on the penalty shootout. And so they did, with a loud and convincing victory over Ecuador, another of the tough sides in the competition. Although battling until the last breath in last Qualifier’s edition, the Ecuadorians could only keep up to the Charrúa pace until mid second period, which they reached only 3-2 down. But the celestes’ physical power was too much to cope with for them, and a 5-0 run in the last 12 minutes finished the game and gave current runner-ups the eventual second place of the group and the chance to attempt for the its head in their coming game against Argentina
